WAR EAGLE  2007

I found a photograph in a magazine and was able to make a pattern from it. Even though I rarely do relief carvings, I was intrigued by the clean, bold lines. The wood is Honduran mahogany, new for me. The inside corners are routed and the rest hand carved with V gouges and straight chisels. The background texture is created with a blunted 16 penny nail. It is finished with boiled linseed oil and clear coat.
